Environmentalists protest against oil and gas exploration in the Gaspé

GASPÉ — Environmentalists protesting oil and gas development in the Gaspé region have set up along a forest road leading to Junex’s Galt well No. 4.

Environmental groups in the Gaspésie are supporting these protesters, some of whom are wearing masks during the protest.

Environment Vert Plus spokesperson Pascal Bergeron said he considers the actions taken by this group, which wishes to remain anonymous, to be justified.

He says that environmentalists have used more conventional means to make themselves heard and that this strategy has not worked.

The environmental group Oil Spot emphasizes that the Galt project represents a foot in the door for the gas industry that is trying to settle in the Gaspésie region and across Quebec.
